RECENT PRICE REDUCTION TO £25,000. A beautifully built racing boat ready for the 2025 season.

Boat Overview

Designed by Lutra, made by v1 Composites in Abu Dhabi in 2006, this 30ft racing yacht was part of the +39 Americas Cup Team and was based at their training camp in Valencia.

Since then it has been part of an elite racing school in Portugal and then brought back to the UK in 2019 to race in the HP30 Class. In 2019, the boat was fitted out for HP30 racing by adding a 2m bowsprit and new rod rigging was fitted by Advanced Rigging at HYS.

In 2020, the keel and hull were subject to a major refit with the keel removed, completely dismantled, the metal core treated and rebuilt by JW Creations in HYS. At this time the hull was sanded back to gel coat and the keel and hull up to the waterline sprayed with epoxy primer. To complete the refit, a new set of sails was designed and built by Ultimate Sails based in the UK.

In 2022, the engine was serviced along with the 280 Saildrive which was treated to replacement gears and bearings. At the end of 2022, the rig was removed and the rod rigging serviced by Advanced Rigging.

The boat is currently under cover in HYS awaiting the warmer weather and is all ready to go racing.

The boat with an IRC rating of 1.084 is competitive in both the HP30 Class (1st in the July 2023 Royal Southern Regatta) and under IRC where it won the IRC1 Autumn Championships 2023.

“Jester” has been dry sailed since 2019 (not kept in the water) and has all antifoul removed and the bottom is spray painted with epoxy primer.

Construction

  • The boat’s hull and deck are made out of advanced composite infusion epoxy E-glass / carbon fibre, which is female moulded.
  • Set up in offshore mode with lifelines and 2.4m draft plus the larger 907kg keel bulb.
  • Rudder is a female moulded foam filled carbon fibre blade with carbon stock in a cassette supported by two self-aligning bearings.

Spars and Rigging

Rig:

  • High Modulus carbon fibre two spreader deck stepped mast, made by Hall Spars & Rigging, USA; rigged with fractional forestay and head sails, mast top and fractional spinnakers and single backstay.
  • Hall Spars boom.
  • Hall Spars carbon spinnaker pole (in store).
  • Rod rigging replaced in 2019 by Advanced Rigging in HYS and serviced every 2 years since.
  • 2.2m carbon bowsprit provided by Cowes Composites IOW.

Spinnaker pole:

  • Oversized (134%) Hall Spars carbon fibre spinnaker pole with end-for-end claws.
  • Two fixed spinnaker pole eyes on the front of the mast for symmetrical spinnakers have been temporarily removed whilst racing in the HP30 class.

Mast Step:

  • The mast is stepped on a custom step on the deck allowing for sufficient rake adjustment.

Sails

The sail wardrobe has seen very little use in the last two seasons and has been designed to specifically suit the boat:

  • 2020 Ultimate Sails Main

Engine

  • Honda 13hp petrol inboard (last serviced in 2022)
  • Saildrive 280 (replacement internals 2022)
  • Spent about £3k on the engine and it now has new gears and gear shifting system, which works really nicely.

IRC Rating

  • 2024 IRC Rating 1.084
  • The boat was weighed and measured in April 2021 to obtain Endorsed Certificate status.

  • Cradle which has both a low mode for trucking with keel off, and a high mode for storage keel on in the yard.
